⏬ New Generation All-Back Contact Solar Technology
The CMPower 280W panel uses 27.4% efficient Back Contact solar cells, providing high solar output while maintaining a clean, modern panel design.
Unlike conventional solar cells with electrical contacts on the front surface, ABC (All-Back Contact) technology places all positive and negative electrical contacts on the rear side of the cell. This maximizes the front surface area available for sunlight energy absorption.
Removing front-side electrical contacts also creates a clean, seamless, grid-free appearance, giving the panel a sleek all-black finish particularly suited to premium marine, yacht, RV, and van installations.
⏬ 280 Watts from a Space-Efficient Footprint
For larger onboard electrical systems, increasing solar capacity without consuming excessive usable space can be a challenge.
The CMPower 280W Back Contact panel delivers 280 watts of maximum power from a panel measuring:
765 × 1510 × 3 mm
31.5 × 59.6 × 0.12 in
Its 27.4% efficient solar cells help maximize solar generation from the available mounting area, making this panel particularly attractive when higher output is required but installation space remains limited.
With substantially more output from a single panel than smaller-format modules, the 280W model can also help reduce the number of individual panels required to achieve a desired total solar array capacity, depending on the available mounting area and system design.
⏬ Lightweight & Semi-Flexible
Despite its 280W maximum power rating, the CMPower panel weighs only 4.8 kg (10.58 lb).
Its lightweight construction can help minimize additional load on compatible bimini structures, boat surfaces, RV and van roofs, and other weight-sensitive installations.
At just 3 mm thick, the panel maintains a low-profile installation compared with conventional framed rigid solar modules.
The semi-flexible construction allows installation on suitable curved surfaces, with the datasheet specifying a maximum bend specification of 60°.
Note: This is a semi-flexible solar panel and should only be bent within the manufacturer's specified limits.
⏬ Enhanced Shade Tolerance
Marine and mobile solar installations frequently experience changing or partial shading caused by:
- Masts
- Rigging
- Antennas
- Rails
- Radar equipment
- Bimini hardware
- Roof accessories
- Other nearby structures
The CMPower Back Contact panel incorporates an advanced cell and electrical design intended to improve performance under partial shading, helping make better use of available sunlight in real-world conditions.
This makes it particularly useful for marine installations where maintaining completely unobstructed sunlight throughout the day can be difficult.
⏬ Excellent High-Temperature Performance
Solar panel output normally decreases as cell temperature increases, making temperature performance important for panels exposed to direct sunlight on boat decks, bimini tops, RVs, vans, and rooftops.
The CMPower 170W Back Contact panel features a Pmax temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, helping reduce power loss as panel temperature rises.
Its temperature characteristics are:
- Pmax: -0.26%/°C
- Voc: -0.24%/°C
- Isc: +0.05%/°C
- Operating Temperature: -40°C to +85°C
⏬ High-Capacity Solar for Bimini Tops & Boat Decks
For boats with sufficient mounting area, the 280W output and semi-flexible construction make this panel particularly attractive for larger bimini top and deck-mounted solar installations.
Its 31.5 × 59.6 inch footprint provides significantly more solar capacity from a single panel than smaller-format modules, while the 3 mm thickness and 10.58 lb weight help maintain a relatively low-profile installation.
For larger boats, yachts, and cruising vessels with higher electrical demands, installing higher-wattage panels can help maximize the amount of solar capacity that can be fitted within the available bimini or deck area.
⏬ Designed for Marine & Mobile Applications
The CMPower 280W semi-flexible solar panel is designed for real-world installations including:
Boats • Bimini Tops • Boat Decks • Yachts • Sailboats • Vans • RVs • Roof Racks • Rooftops • Curved Surfaces
Its marine-oriented construction includes a waterproof IP67 XC502 junction box, 316 stainless steel mounting holes and eyelets, and testing that includes IEC salt mist and high-temperature humidity conditions.
The black backsheet and all-black Back Contact cell design also provide a clean finished appearance suitable for installations where aesthetics are important.
⏬ Marine-Ready Mounting & Connections
The panel is supplied with six mounting holes/eyelets manufactured from 316 stainless steel, a corrosion-resistant material commonly suited to demanding marine environments.
The grommets are positioned approximately 14 mm from the panel edge, according to the datasheet.
Electrical connection is provided through:
0.9 m solar cable • 4 mm² conductor • MC4 connectors
Combined with the IP67 waterproof XC502 junction box, these features provide a practical foundation for professional marine and mobile solar installations.
Our New 4 Quadrant Design
The diagram along side illustrates how these amazing panels work. Instead of the normal 2 quadrant design we use a new split cell design allowing the panel to have four quadrants of solar cells linked in series and isolated with inner panel blocking diodes. If one or two quadrants are shaded, the other quadrants perform at normal output. This can increase shaded panel output by 3 times that of a standard shaded panel.
SunPower Maxeon Shade Tolerant Series
Solar panel shading is a major issue on many boats. Shading can reduce a standard panel performance by over 60%. Custom Marine Products has developed a series of semi-flexible shade tolerant solar panels that have superior performance when partially shaded by boat equipment or nearby objects. These solar panels have high performance SunPower Maxeon cells. The diagram to the left illustrates how these amazing panels work. The junction box is mounted in the center or the edge of the panel enabling the panel to have four quadrants of solar cells linked in series and isolated with diodes. If one or two quadrants are shaded, the other quadrants perform at normal output. The result is a panel that will provide up to three times the output of a standard panel when shaded. These shade tolerant panels are ideal for bimini and dodger mounting where there is boom, mast and instrument pole shading. Patent pending
What Makes Our Panels Superior
- Our Semi Flexible Shade Tolerant Panels use only SunPower Maxeon A+ Cells.
- The SunPower cells we use in these panels are 24.4% efficient.
- We use an ETFE laminate coating that won't delaminate or go milky for 10 years.
- The ETFE laminate is applied with a prismatic finish to direct sun energy into the cells.
- Panels use internal blocking diodes to isolate the quadrants unaffected by shading.
- We build 4-6 grommets into the panels edges for easy installation with our mounting kits.
- All panels come with 3 foot pigtails and MC4 connectors.
- Our junction boxes are filled with Non Gassing Silicon RTV for maximum electrical waterproof insulation and corrosion resistance.
