Good News for Solar Enthusiasts: Now Extended Through 2034!
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 has extended the Federal Solar Tax Credit (ITC), giving homeowners and boat owners even more incentive to go solar. This tax credit applies to your primary or secondary residence—including certain boats with living accommodations (head, galley, and bunk) registered in the U.S.
What You Need to Know
Tax Credit Rate:
- 2022–2032: 30% of total system costs
- 2033: 26% of total system costs
- 2034: 22% of total system costs
- After Jan. 1, 2035: 0%
Eligibility:
You can claim this credit if you’ve made energy-saving improvements to your home (or qualifying boat) in the U.S. during the tax year. Qualified residences include:
- Houses
- Mobile homes
- Condominiums
- Cooperative apartments
- Houseboats (with proper accommodations)
What’s Covered:
The credit applies to the cost of:
- Solar panels
- Batteries
- Inverters
- Charge controllers
- Wiring and labor costs
Retroactive Eligibility:
Systems placed in service after January 1, 2006, can qualify if the credit hasn’t already been claimed.
Unused Credits:
If your tax liability is lower than the credit, you can roll over unused amounts to future tax years.
How to Claim the Credit
- Complete IRS Form 5695:
Download the form here. Make sure to use the latest version updated in January/February of the applicable tax year.
Instructions for Form 5695. - File with IRS Form 1040:
The total from Form 5695 is entered as a line item on Form 1040. Attach both forms when filing your return.
Download IRS Form 1040.
Additional State Incentives
Many states offer additional tax incentives or rebates for solar energy systems. Check out the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for a detailed breakdown of state-specific programs.
State Highlights
- Arizona: 25% tax credit, up to $1,000.
- Hawaii: 35% tax credit, up to $5,000.
- New York: 25% tax credit, up to $5,000.
- Oregon: Up to $6,000 in credits over four years.
- South Carolina: 25% tax credit for installation costs.
Note: State programs are subject to change. Always verify details with your state’s tax department.
Don’t Wait—Take Advantage of Solar Savings!
With the credit extended through 2034 and now covering batteries, it’s the perfect time to upgrade or install a solar system. Be sure to consult your tax advisor to maximize your savings and ensure compliance with the latest regulations.

100 Watt Rail Mounted Carbon Fiber Marine Solar Panel With Seadog Brackets
The 100 Watt Rail Mounted Carbon Fiber Marine Solar Panel with SeaDog Brackets is a rugged, high-performance power solution designed specifically for sailboats and marine rail systems.
This panel uses genuine SeaDog clamps, mounted to the back of the panel using marine-grade industrial adhesive. The panel clips directly onto standard 1” boat rails and can be adjusted by hand to face the sun or folded flat when docking or not in use.
Built with a carbon fiber backing, this panel offers a rare balance of flexibility and strength. It has a slight “give” but remains extremely stiff and durable, capable of handling heavy marine use and vibration.
It uses A+ Grade SunPower solar cells with 24.4% efficiency for maximum energy output. The advanced split-panel design allows one half to continue producing power even when the other half is shaded. The cells themselves are also shade tolerant, so partial shading does not stop production.
The surface is protected with a premium ETFE laminate that resists cracking and will not turn milky over time, even under intense UV and saltwater exposure. This is a marine-built solar solution designed for real-world offshore use, combining efficiency, durability, and simple hands-on adjustability.
✅ Each cell works when partially shaded unlike most other solar cells where the whole panel will go down if a portion of a cell is shaded.
✅ A+ grade Sunpower Maxeon cells produce relatively high amounts of power even at low sun angles, thus generating more watt-hours over the course of a day than lower quality panels.
📦 Ships Next Day UPS Ground from Denver or Michigan.
Key Features
⚡ 100 Watt output: using premium SunPower Maxeon 24.4% A+ grade cells. Top-tier solar cells deliver industry-leading power conversion even in compact panel size.
⚡ Rail-Mount Ready: Pre-installed SeaDog-style rail clamps securely clip onto standard boat rails, allowing quick hand adjustment toward the sun or flat positioning for docking. Mounts easily to standard 1" boat rails.
⚡ Dock-Friendly Adjustable Design: Quickly tilt toward the sun or lay flat against the rail when approaching docks or under low-clearance areas.
⚡ 180° rotation to maximize sun exposure at any angle.
⚡ Carbon Fiber Reinforced Backing: Super strong carbon fiber back provides slight flex with excellent stiffness, making the panel rugged, impact-resistant, and marine-grade.
⚡ Shade tolerant design: each half produces power independently.
⚡ ETFE Laminate Protection: Non-milky surface with excellent UV, corrosion, and wear resistance.
⚡ Easy Installation: Clean, low-profile mounting with no deck drilling required.
⚡ Marine-grade resistance: to saltwater, UV, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
⚡ 5-Year Warranty: Backed by Custom Marine Products for quality assurance and long-term reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Does this panel fit standard boat rails?
A: Yes. The adjustable SeaDog-style clamps are designed to fit most standard marine rail sizes for easy, secure mounting.
Q: Can I adjust the panel’s angle?
A: Yes. The panel can be tilted by hand toward the sun or laid flat when approaching docks or low-clearance areas.
Q: Is this panel strong enough for harsh marine environments?
A: Absolutely. The carbon fiber reinforced backing and ETFE laminate are designed to withstand vibration, salt spray, UV exposure, and heavy marine use.
Q: Does the ETFE coating turn cloudy over time?
A: No. ETFE is highly resistant to cracking, clouding, and yellowing unlike PET-based panels.
Q: Is this panel waterproof?
A: Yes. The panel is fully marine-rated and designed for exposed outdoor use.
Q: Do I need to drill holes to install it?
A: No. The rail clamps allow secure mounting without drilling into your boat.
Q: What is the difference between the SeaDog bracket version and the sliding aluminum bracket version?
A: The SeaDog bracket version is permanently pre-installed and allows the panel to rotate and tilt only, making it quick and simple to aim toward the sun. The sliding aluminum bracket version allows the brackets to slide back and forth along the panel, giving more flexibility in matching rail spacing and custom mounting positions.
Q: Which version is more adjustable?
A: The sliding aluminum bracket version offers more mounting flexibility because the brackets can slide along the panel. The SeaDog version is simpler, with fixed clamp positions and manual rotation only.
Q: Which one should I choose?
A: Choose the SeaDog bracket version if you want a clean, ready-to-install solution with easy tilt adjustment. Choose the sliding aluminum bracket version if you need maximum flexibility to match different rail widths or custom mounting layouts.
Q: Do both versions use the same solar cells?
A: Yes. Both versions use the same SunPower® A+ grade 24.4% efficient cells and marine-grade ETFE construction with shade-tolerant performance and carbon fiber backing.
Q: Do both versions work in partial shade?
A: Yes. Both designs use split-panel construction and shade-tolerant cell technology, allowing continued power production even when part of the panel is shaded.
